UW Varsity Band 2008
Kemaren malem nonton UW Varsity Band 2008 sama anak2 di Kohl Center. Ber 7. Gw, Manda, Adeline, Barry, Felix, Linebacker, Kanyak. Title was "There's a Place for Us". Good indication that the theme would be West Side Story.
Something to miss about the UW Varsity Band : the tradition!
What make an event and a tradition different :
An event : we watch and listen to the songs.
A tradition : we know the conductor dearly (cheerful grandpa that flies every year and always shimmers with his red UW jacket after intermission), we sing and dance to the songs, we do not really care if one of the songs go bad, we feel that Kohl's Center is the only place we belong to that nite.
The experience of standing, with my hands around my friends' shoulders, swaying my body right and left, and being not able to decide to be silent in tears running down the eye, or to do both that and try singing Varsity along with funny voice. I cried thru my last "Varsity" as a UW Student. When Mikey said "see you on 16, 17 or 18 April 2009 here again in Kohl Center", I wondered whether I'd be able to fulfill that invitation. Last year I had no problem saying "yeah, see you again next year!"
Then a good extra late dinner with Manda, it's been a while... Until 2:30 am! Lol... Long life Perkins!
By the way, there was this somebody outside Perkins, asking us for a hug at 2:30 in the morning. Manda answered "ok, sure!" then hugged him. (Later Manda told me that she was afraid that he would chase us to the car if she said no, lol...) I, also, hugged him, too. He was a total stranger, but it was one of those good hugs. He said he needed one. Then, I dunno about Manda, but for me, when I was about to get into the car, I started wondering if it was a mutual event...
